Media Award Presented to Margaret Brackett

The 2009 Media Award for Radio Talk Show was presented to Margaret Brackett of WKDK. Lt. Governor Andre Bauer traveled to Newberry to personally make this presentation. The WKDK broadcasts, “On the Move with Margaret,” have been aired for seven years during the Coffee Hour to inform the community on interesting and motivating subjects. Congratulations Margaret!

Humanitarian Award for James F. Coggins

The Newberry County Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees Tuesday night presented the 2009 Jake and Mildred Fulmer Humanitarian of the Year Award posthumously to James F. Coggins. Jimmie Coggins accepted the award in his father's honor and memory.

New Council members elected to serve this term 2009-2011 are Dwight Lane and Cassie J. Fowler.

The remaining four members of council and the Mayor Tim Carroll were re-elected and have served at least two terms or more include: Annette McCaskill, Chrystal Harsha, Jimmy Brock, Debbie Harris.

Learning More About the ROTC

LTC Walt Pjetraj, Professor of Military Science, spoke to the Newberry Rotary Club about the excellent opportunities available to students when joining the Army ROTC. LTC Pjetraj revealed that the ROTC brought in $169,000 to Newberry College. He also explained that a student in the program after graduating could earn in excess of $48,000.
